The Rose City Genealogy Club (RCGC) is pleased to announce their latest endeavor - The digitization of the Mary E. Perkins genealogical collection. The Perkins collection consists of 400 volumes of hand written research notebooks containing hundreds of thousands of individuals names and families in the New London Country area. Ms. Perkins devoted her life (1848-1935) to this work. Since the works are fragile the first task to be accomplished on each volume is to electronically scan each chart. The charts are then assembled and labelled by the family names and researchers are given a compact disc (CD) of the scanned images to work with. The individuals and family relationships are then entered into an online database that will be web accessable and searchable by the public. The RCGC is comprised of about a dozen local genealogists who meet on a monthly basis on the second Tuesday of each month during the fall, winter, and spring usually at the Otis Library. Membership is open to anyone interested in genealogy. The RCGC would welcome new members and individuals who would like to volunteer some of their time to enter data into the database and verify its accuracy. The RCGC website http://rosecitygenealogy.org is currently set up to receive data from the researchers. As volumes are verified they will be made available to the public. |
